It was all glamour and pageantry in Enugu as Rangers international football club won its first professional league title since 1990 the Nigeria league status changed to a professional league.
The road to a successful season campaign was not all that rosy as it was full of suspense, thrills and trials , at a point it seems all hope lost until the life line came their way in Uyo , at the end of it all Rangers recorded their its league title which they last won 32 years ago.
A worthy champion you will agree, after all a baby born 32 years ago is matured and ready for marriage , in Rangers case 32 years absent means winning this year league campaign was worth the waiting to be crowned as the new league champion.
The season saw professional league making a comeback to the city of excellent with the promotion of MFM FC and Ikorodu united to the elite league from the lower cadre, the return also brought with it night football to the Lagos teeming fans as stadium was jammed packed on match days, most especially with clubs like Kano pillars and Rangers came calling to the turf of Agege stadium.
With new improved package by clubs, more foreigners came calling to the shore with clubs like Ifeanyi Ubah, Ikorodu united and Rivers united game room for players and coaches to test their Witt in the league.
The season also saw the league organiser signing MOU with their Spanish LA Liga in various area in a bit to improve and raise the standard of the league, players, coaches and clubs in technical and administrative areas.
This development saw a selected NPFL players and coaches to play few club friendly in Spain.
The league organiser also brought in few partners to boost the league package and they also make sure that the league in few years will have its participating clubs quoted on the Nigeria stock, the league management company saddle with the organisation of the league also signed MOU with some broadcasting company in a bit to improved and spice up the day to day activities of the league.
Officiating for the just ended season was fair enough, but more effort can still be put in to improve the overall performance, kudos should be giving to the NRA NPS for his effort in making sure that referees appointments were made public week in, week out.
With the just concluded season, it was observed that some referees don’t have business officiating in the premier league and as such referees should be weed out.
Fans conduct was a little above average compared to the previous seasons but more still need to be done in educating the fans on rules and laws bidding the game of football, clubs need to get their fans organised and registered for easy monitoring before, during and after games most especially the so called “Agege fans”.
Godwin Obaje of wikki tourist joined the likes of Jude Aneke, Mfon Udoh, Ahmed Musa and Ishaya Jatau in history as one of the hot shots we have paraded in our league with his remarkable 18 goals .
The season summary caption would not be completed without a mention of the rising stars paraded in the league, emphasis will be on the coach of MFM FC “the working one” Fidelis Ilechukwu and his young lads most of whom are just playing in their first season in the elite league, kudos to Stephen Odey the teenage striker, also the eyes of the deities could not but picked out Moses Ebiye of Ikorodu united as well.
The only unfortunate incident that happened during the last season is the expulsion of Giwa Fc of Jos from the league after the club violated sections of the rules as stated in the frame work and rules for 2015\16 season ,as the club refused to honour three games as stipulated in the rules.
