KENYANS DOMINATED OKPEKPE RACE


They came, they saw and cart away the prize money, that was what the Kenyans did in both the male and female categories of the fourth Okpekpe 10km road race in Auchi, Edo state.

Simon Cheprot who was visiting Nigeria for the first time won the mens event in 29:48secs ahead of Smail Gallet from Tanzania (29:50secs) and Ugandans Timothy Toroitich (29:54secs) in second and third position respectively, while Polline Njeru was the winner in the womens category with time of 33:23secs.
Ndiema Chemtai also from Kenya finished second in the womens race with time of 33:35secs as Ethiopians Buzunesh Gudet finished third in 33:58secs.

The top three finishers were rewarded with the sum of $15,000, $10,000 and $7,000 respectively in both the male and female categories.

Meanwhile, Adamu Muazu from Plateau State was the first Nigeria to finished the race in 32:36secs and was rewarded with the sum of N250,000 for his endeavour. Stephen Joshua (32:37secs) and Emmanuel Gyang (32:39secs) finished second and third respectively.

Deborah Pam finished first for Nigeria women with Olamide Oluwaseun in second place and Elizabeth Nuhu in third position.
